Double drum rollers are best suited to asphalt compaction – this type of work can be carried out quickly, so more powerful machines are required. Examples are flattening and paving large sections of a road during road construction projects. The double drum rollers are less useful on uneven ground than a single drum machine. Also known as ‘tandem vibratory rollers’ or twin drum rollers, they have drums at the front and back of the machine that drive, steer and compact at the same time. Unlike its single drum rollers, double drum vibratory rollers have no tyres at all. this means that the operator can compact materials from in front and behind simultaneously.
