Kalmar, part of Cargotec, is to begin production of its electric reachstacker and Essential forklift truck range at the company’s Shanghai manufacturing plant. The production launch was celebrated at a themed ‘Electrify & Expand’ event on 6th December with customers and dealer representatives. Kalmar’s Shanghai plant opened in 2005 and manufactures a wide range of high-end cargo handling equipment including reachstackers, empty container handlers and terminal tractors. Hyster has developed and shipped a hydrogen fuel cell Reachstacker to the Port of Valencia in Spain. The ReachStacker is part of the H2Ports project, which aims to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles and equipment in port operations. This Hyster ReachStacker is an innovative zero-emission solution that uses a Nuvera fuel cell to convert hydrogen into electricity. The hydrogen is stored on-board in high-pressure tanks and can be refilled in 10-15 minutes. Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a one-year agreement with Norwegian rail operator CargoNet covering the field-testing of a Kalmar Electric Reachstacker. Following the conclusion of the agreement, CargoNet has the option to continue with regular commercial operation of the machine. The agreement was signed in January 2022 and the machine will be delivered to CargoNet in Q1 of 2023. CargoNet, Norway’s leading rail-freight operator, has an equipment fleet that already includes 18 Kalmar reachstackers and one Kalmar heavy forklift truck.
