Why Buy a JCB?

JCB has a long history of production of construction equipment in the UK from its Staffordshire base. Starting in 1945 manufacturing trailers, JCB made their first backhoe loader in 1953 and has branched out into related machinery ever since.

The JCB Loadall telehandler came as early as 1978.

This heritage means that JCB is prolific in the UK and their brand is often used by the public when talking about a backhoe loader – let’s face it, it’s easier to say ‘JCB’.

Parts are therefore readily available and JCB machines are typically well regarded in the used machinery market, which means strong residuals.

What Products do JCB Make – The A-Z (almost)?

It is indeed a long list, from Access platforms – JCB make electric scissor lifts – the models start with ‘S’ for scissor and end in ‘E’ for electric.

Moving down the list comes the ubiquitous Backhoe Loader. JCB claim that nearly half the world’s backhoe loaders are made by JCB (thanks to their maga factory in India).

The ‘3C’ model designation has been running since the early 1960s – although it has gained an ‘X’ over the years. However, the models have evolved and include the 4CX and 5CX.

Moving to Compaction equipment, in 2005, JCB bought the German manufacturer, Vibromax.  The company now promotes the CT range of twin drum vibratory tandem rollers.

‘D’ is for Dumpster – these small, tracked machines are now available in diesel or electric power.

JCB Forklifts are marketed under the Teletruk range – these are telescopic forklifts, unlike most that operate on a column – they are a cross between a traditional forklift and a telehandler. More popular are JCB’s rough terrain forklifts – the 900 range covering 926 to 940

JCB Generators come in a broad range from just 18kVa to 770kVa and now include electric power packs and stage V diesels.

JCB Make a range of Lighting towers – under the ‘LT’ range (they had their best team on that one).

After the backhoe loaders, JCB are famous for their Mini-diggers.  The company makes a wide range of mini-excavators from 0.8 to 10 tonnes. Check the model numbers for tail swing (CTS) and zero tail swing (ZTS).

JCB Site Dumpers differ from the pedestrian ‘Dumpsters’ thanks to their size and operator position. They come in different sizes from just one-tonne right up to 9 tonnes. Up to 3-tonnes, the operator is in the open air – heavier machines from 6 tonnes come equipped with cabins for driver comfort.

Alongside the JCB Skid steer loaders we like to include the tracked version. These models end in the letter ‘T’, whereas the wheeled skid steers simply use numbers, such as the 155 or 215. Check out also JCB’s teleskid range of skid steer telehandlers.

JCB’s main Telehandler range is marketed under the ‘Loadall’ brand. Breaking down the model designation, using the 516-40 as an example, the ‘5’ is the telehandler range, the 16 is the 1.6 tonnes maximum lift capacity and the 40 is the 4-metre maximum lift height. There are high-viz versions that have lower boom mountings which give the operator a better all-round view.

JCB Tracked Excavators have been traditionally marketed under the JS model range and have more recently added the new 16-28-tonne ‘X Series’ to their tracked excavator range.

JCB distinguish their wheeled excavators from the tracked versions with a ‘W’ at the end of the model number – so the JS160W is definitely a wheeled, not tracked excavator. The newest member of the JCB wheeled excavator family is the Hydradig range – it look totally differnt and JCB claim it is the answer to improved visibility, stability, manoeuvrability, mobility and serviceability.

JCB Wheel loaders have been part of the JCB range for more than 50 years – the broad range starts at 2.5 tonnes and reaches a whopping 20 tonnes for their 457 wheeled loader.
